Bahamas - Ragged Island, Little Ragged, Walking Eastern Windward Beaches

We decided to go for a walk on the eastern windward side beaches, and Duane and Karen picked Jenny and I up. Nicholas was not coming with, and undertook to burn garbage as Meshugga’s paper bin was rather full.

No sooner than we’d got off and anchored the dinghy that Duane picked up a small conch shell, and a Octopus slid out. A tiny little thing. He made fast tracks down the beach to the water. We put his shell home in the shallows, and before we’d walked away he was back inside his home.

Walking up to Lovers Leap, we saw this spent cartridge on the ground. You can see all the goat dropping in the background. The people on Ragged Island, who own Little Ragged, put their goats on Little Ragged to roam free and forage, but every now and then come to shoot one for the pot.

Views from Lovers Leap inland over the Salt Pond. Last year this time, it was mostly dry

Sargassa weed, flotsam and jetsam. Hunting for ‘treasures’, sea beans and sea glass

The two palms with Micky Mouse is the Start of the Trail from Eastern Beach across the island to Coco Bay Beach on the western side of the island.

This Trail, last year, we had a group of about 10 cruisers who cut the Trail and marked it. Walking across it now, we got the the Salt Pan, which was dry last year….. we decided to not wade through the pan and made an about turn at this point. Coco Bay Beach is right over the trees you can see across the Salt Pond.

After walking back along the Trail to Eastern Beach, we made or way on a shorter different path, more inland, back to the dinghy.

We did a 3.8 mile/6 km walk in 3 and a half hours. Karens Garmin watch said she’d burned 800 calories. So a good walk and we are all suitable tired.
