Bahamas - Ragged Island, Hog Cay, A Trail Walk to collect Coconuts

Our group consisted of me, Michele of Reach, Jenny, and Karen of Sojourn. Duane called it a Hens party

Karen collected us all in her dinghy and we beached at Hog Bay, taking the Sojourn Trail to Lobster Beach.

The trail is still well clear and well marked

Once on Lobster Beach we took the First Trail across the island coming out on one of the western bays with this marker

Then we walked south, and once we got to the headland overlooking the Cut Buoy we realized we’d walked too far and back tracked to the previous trail marker which took us across a pond to South Beach

On South Beach the Coconut trees were easy to spot and we walked there, moving the ‘ladder’ from a tree that had been stripped of Coconuts to one of the shorter trees with Coconuts easy to spot and reach

Somehow I was designated to climb the ladder and Karen and Michele held the ladder for support as the ladder feet were on top of old palm fronds

I was quite happy with haul

We took 9 Coconuts. I decided we needed 7 which would be one each (with our partners), but the last bunch came down and we had 9 in total

We decided to open a coconut for a well earned drink, and Karen tried, but not one of us had ever opened a Coconut before (our men do that), and we were totally unsuccessful

Back on our trail, Jenny had been picking up flotsam and jetsam

And used some of it to mark the trail on the beach

We took the very closest trail from the Coconut trees, and headed straight across the island. It was a very short trail and ended on Lobster Beach with this bizarre marking. Someone must have a weird sense of humor.

Back across at Hog Beach, we had nice view over the anchorage

Climbing down the end/start of the trail is not the most elegant affair
