Bahamas - Ragged Islands, Hog Cay, Trail Blazing a New Path from the Hut to Lobster Bay Beach

Karen of Sojourn had the excellent idea that we needed a New Path from our anchorage at Hog Cay Yacht Club to Lobster Bay Beach, which is the beach immediately south of us, and only accessible by water.

Every time we want to walk the southern trails, we have to dinghy to Lobster Beach and as that entails taking our dinghies, we often end up leaving our partners (who might not want to walk), stranded on the yacht or ashore - as our walks are often around 3 hours.

We set of from Hog Cay Yacht Club beach and trail blazed through virgin scrub, cutting down trees and shrubs. Initially there were 3 of us, Karen, me and Rita of Conomo, who had a small battery operated chainsaw, which was most welcome for the bigger branches and trees.

Below is the Vista created as a Look-Out point along the trail overlooking Lobster bay.

Our second and third days were joined by Duane of Sojourn, and Nicholas who brought much needed man-power. Duane with a machete, and Nicholas with a Saw-Saw.

Back at Hog Cay Beach the Step-Up to the start of the Trail is over these rocks, and they’re a bit height for us shorter girls to get up. Duane had a novel idea of burying a 45 gallon drum filled with sand and topped with a flat rock, and steps up to the drum.
